Speakers at the annual 2024 Boao Asian Forum in China emphasized the significant transformative impact of modern technologies, with a special focus on the evolving capabilities of artificial intelligence and how its expanding influence across various fields.
The Chinese media group presented a series of sub-conferences related to the event, highlighting the “Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence on Global Transformation” forum focusing on generative artificial intelligence. Experts from various fields such as AI, computer science, and automation discussed their vision on the role artificial intelligence can play in transforming the global economy and society digitization.
In this context, Chang Ya Qin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the head of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Research Institute at Tsinghua University, emphasized that the development of creative artificial intelligence goes beyond the ability to recognize voice, face, and images, extends to its capability to innovate and generate codes, drugs, and specific mathematical formulas and physics equations, leading to fundamental transformations in technology and work patterns.
Similarly, Leo Tsung, the director of research at the leading Chinese technology company Evlethic, stressed the importance of programming in modern industries, explaining that the use of large code models can increase efficiency by 50% in the initial software development stages and boost productivity by over 40% during software testing and error correction phases.
The sub-forum focusing on “High-Quality Innovation-Driven Development, Clean Environment, Digital Intelligence, and Integration” discussed concepts related to environmental sustainability, sustainable development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and comprehensive growth. Through exchanging expertise among government, corporate, and academic community professionals in diverse activities across various sectors and fields.
Song Hai Liang, CEO of the Chinese Power Engineering Group, stated that the company has established fourteen new research institutes focusing on topics related to the shift towards environmental innovation, in addition to six national experimental platforms. He mentioned that the company has allocated investments exceeding 13 billion yuan (approximately equivalent to 1.8 billion US dollars) for innovation in the past year.
The annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia in 2024, held in Boao Village, Hainan Province, southern China, attracted nearly two thousand participants from over sixty countries and regions. The forum, founded in 2001, is an independent international non-profit organization aiming to support regional economic integration and promote convergence among Asian countries towards achieving their developmental goals.
