A joint Artificial Intelligence Summit hosted by South Korea and Britain is set to take place in May, with the Seoul Summit scheduled for May 21-22 following the AI Safety Summit held in England in November 2023, attended by countries such as South Korea, the United States, Britain, Japan, and Germany.
The South Korean presidential office stated in a press release that the upcoming meeting will focus on exploring ways to enhance innovation, containment, and mutual growth through artificial intelligence.
On the evening of May 21, leaders of participating countries will hold an online summit to discuss ensuring the safety of AI technologies, promoting innovations, and building an inclusive future for all.
On May 22, a ministerial meeting will be held to discuss specific areas of cooperation based on the outcomes of the previous day’s meeting, including measures aimed at enhancing AI safety in each country and developing sustainable artificial intelligence.
Also on May 22, South Korea will host an international forum on artificial intelligence with the participation of high-level officials from around the world, prominent industry leaders, and members of academic institutions.
In his keynote address to the United Nations General Assembly last September, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yool proposed the establishment of the forum.
The Korean presidential office stated that the Global Artificial Intelligence Forum, in addition to our government hosting the AI Summit, is expected to serve as a platform for providing specific guidelines for establishing a new global governance framework for artificial intelligence in the future.
