As part of the collaboration between the “Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence” and companies like “Microsoft,” “IBM,” and “Rotechord,” a workshop was organized to discuss the increasing role of artificial intelligence in various fields, and ways to keep up with the diverse applications and tools in both the public and private sectors, as well as methods to regulate and govern these uses.
This workshop aligns with the efforts of the “Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence” in enhancing its global partnerships and fulfilling its pivotal role in shaping an integrated community that hosts government entities, technology companies, and entrepreneurs, providing a platform for innovative minds and ideas from around the world to collaborate on launching quality initiatives and programs that support the implementation of new artificial intelligence applications in enhancing government performance.
The workshop featured a panel discussion hosted by Meitha Al Suwaidi, the Chief Operations Officer at “Microsoft” UAE, Mustafa Dhaffar, Vice President for Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Automation at “IBM,” and Said Al Falasi, the Director of the “Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence,” with the workshop organized by Alagan Mahalingam, the founder and CEO of “Rotechord.”
The participants in the meeting emphasized the importance of effectively implementing artificial intelligence strategies in both the public and private sectors, harnessing its extensive and diverse capabilities to achieve organizational goals in the short and long term.
The participants discussed several future scenarios on the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of government policies and public services in the next decade, in addition to addressing the primary ethical considerations that must be prioritized to ensure responsible and fair use of artificial intelligence technologies.
During her session, Meitha Al Suwaidi, the Chief Operations Officer at Microsoft UAE, emphasized Microsoft’s support for all government programs and national initiatives to enhance Dubai’s and the UAE’s leadership as a global hub for technology, innovation, and leveraging the latest futuristic applications.
When we talk about Microsoft’s contribution to nurturing startups and institutions seeking to enhance the use of artificial intelligence-related applications and technologies to increase business efficiency, we find that they have introduced various initiatives in this regard.
Mustafa Dhaffar, the Vice President for Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Automation at IBM, highlighted the mutual importance of government and private institutions focusing on developing essential future skills necessary to prepare for the age of artificial intelligence.
The conversation addressed the key efforts made by the global IBM company in artificial intelligence technologies, emphasizing the importance of using different applications to enhance business efficiency, promote innovation, develop new and unique business models.
Said Al Falasi, the Director of the “Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence,” stressed the importance of knowledge and experience exchange between government institutions and private companies, emphasizing the need to accelerate the shift towards relying on artificial intelligence in providing government services.
Through developing the skills of employees in the government sector and providing the necessary tools to achieve this goal.
The center aims to utilize its partnerships with the government and global technology companiesTo enhance the legislation pertaining to modern technology and study the ethical and social impacts of interactive artificial intelligence applications, as well as establish the necessary laws and policies and empower talented national competencies and experiences.
The “Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications” was launched in June 2023 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, with the aim of supporting government entities in the emirate of Dubai in practically and effectively applying future technology, in preparation for upcoming radical transformations in various vital sectors.
The center, overseen by the Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Media Council, and Dubai Digital Authority, works on training government employees on artificial intelligence applications.
It has also launched pilot projects and improved government services that can benefit from these applications. It has provided support to startups specialized in this advanced technological field, whether from the United Arab Emirates or from other parts of the world.
