The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology “KACST,” participated in the inaugural meeting of the Science20 track within the Group of Twenty (G20), held in Rio de Janeiro under the presidency of the Federal Republic of Brazil under the slogan of Science for Global Transformation.
Discussions were held on topics related to artificial intelligence, bioeconomics, energy transition, health, and social justice at the meeting hosted by the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and attended by representatives from science academies in G20 countries, international scientific institutions, and national networks.
The Saudi delegation emphasized the importance of the Kingdom’s leading role in data and artificial intelligence by establishing a legal framework that complies with international standards to improve professional practices and applications related to human capacity development.
In the field of bioeconomics, the delegation presented Saudi efforts to enhance economic diversification and sustainability by attracting major investments in this sector to achieve global excellence through the launch of the National Biotechnology Strategy focusing on improving national health, raising living standards, preserving the environment, ensuring food and water security, increasing economic opportunities, and promoting promising industries.
When presenting Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to address health challenges, the delegation highlighted the Saudi Genome Program, which relies on analyzing big data to enhance precision medicine, promote digital health, and reduce the occurrence of genetic diseases.
The delegation affirmed that the Kingdom aims in the energy sector to diversify future energy sources and focus on investing in diverse and balanced energy sources.
As part of efforts to achieve social justice, the Saudi delegation reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to equality and the establishment of fair societies where everyone enjoys equal rights ensuring the participation of all segments of society.
