eBay has introduced a new artificial intelligence feature that allows sellers to change backgrounds of images using backgrounds created by artificial intelligence. This tool is currently available to iOS users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and is expected to be launched for Android users in the coming months.
Similar to Amazon and Google, eBay unveiled an enhanced AI-powered tool for background editing. The tool automatically removes image backgrounds and converts them into backgrounds chosen by the user, such as placing the product on a table surface or a colorful background representing the brand.
Last year, Amazon and Google launched similar tools, allowing brands to use smart technology to create new product images. eBay’s background enhancement tool is based on the open-source Streamlit Disentanglement Model and is helpful for sellers who need high-quality images but lack the equipment or skills to capture them.
The tool provides sellers with the ability to remove backgrounds from their current product images and place them in a new background created by artificial intelligence from a variety of settings and subjects. Since 2020, eBay sellers have been able to change backgrounds and replace them with a clean white background using computer technology.
The new feature includes guidelines for sellers on the importance of verifying image accuracy and AI transparency. In December 2023, eBay introduced a feature based on generative AI to enable sellers to easily prepare social media posts with a single click.
In September 2023, eBay introduced the “Magic Seller List” solution, which uses AI to analyze and understand listing details from a small amount of data, including images. This technology can write titles, descriptions, add information such as product release date and category, suggest listing price and shipping cost. eBay plans to improve visual generation models based on seller and customer feedback in the coming year.
