Qualcomm has announced the release of its latest processor, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, aiming to provide high performance for smartphones in the mid-range category.
A noticeable improvement in the efficiency of this processor indicates that future mid-range devices may enjoy significant spec upgrades.
Qualcomm relied on TSMC’s 4-nanometer technology in developing its new processor.
The processor features a central processing unit consisting of eight cores, including 4 Cortex-X4 cores clocked up to 2.8 gigahertz, 4 other Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.6 gigahertz, and three updated Cortex-A520 cores operating at 1.9 gigahertz.
Qualcomm promises a 15% improvement in the performance of the central processing unit compared to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor.
The new chip set lacks necessary support for ray tracing technology, although Qualcomm indicates that the graphics processing unit has a 45% performance improvement compared to the current GPU in Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 offers advanced features for the GPU, including ultra-high-definition display quality and support for a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz, despite lacking AV1 decryption support, enhancing the efficiency of the GPU in video streaming.
Qualcomm integrates Artificial Intelligence in devices through Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The company mentions that the processor supports the “Stable Diffusion” image generation system, as well as the “Gemini Nano” system.
The processor also supports multiple languages in translation services, in addition to virtual assistants and copy services.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features a triple image processor capable of seamlessly integrating three lenses, potentially supporting high-definition lenses, such as sensors with resolutions up to 200 megapixels or triple lenses with 36-megapixel resolution.
The chip also aids in instant semantic segmentation to enhance depth, enrich images and visual content with more details.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 uses the X63 modem, supporting download speeds of up to 4.2 gigabits per second. This modem features multiple capabilities like signal reception enhancement and power consumption reduction.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 allows video recording in 4K HDR quality at up to 60 frames per second, in addition to supporting Ultra HDR high-resolution images from Google.
You can also record slow-motion videos in 1080 pixels quality at 240 frames per second.
Multi-frame noise reduction feature captures high-resolution images even in low-light conditions.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 inherits advanced wireless connectivity features from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, including support for the new WiFi 7 standard with HBS Multi-Link technology and Bluetooth 5.4.
Other prominent features in Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 include a 5% improvement in power efficiency, support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 internal storage, along with providing a rich surround sound experience.
