OpenAI is nearing the launch of its own internet search engine, according to recent reports.
As reported by Android Authority, OpenAI has obtained SSL certificates for the new web domain search.chatgpt.com.
An SSL certificate stands for “Secure Sockets Layer” technology, which is used to secure online communications and encrypt data between the browser and web servers. SSL certificates are used to provide additional protection for websites online, often indicated by a lock or green symbol in the browser address bar.
According to the website, the company plans to launch a search feature powered by the artificial intelligence robot ChatGPT soon in the current month of May.
With the domain name indicating its purpose, the new feature allows users to search the internet, likely available only to subscribers of Plus plans or business and team subscriptions.
It is noted that the AI assistant “Copilot” allows users to conduct internet search operations with summarized results and references to mentioned information sources.
Copilot assistant from Microsoft relies on AI models similar to those provided by OpenAI.
One of the key features ensured by AI-based search is enabling users to access results quickly, saving a lot of time in searching through various sites appearing in traditional search results.
Experts believe that the new search engine from OpenAI may attract users looking for a different search experience, thanks to advancements in natural language processing and artificial intelligence technologies. Nevertheless, OpenAI has not officially revealed any details about this feature yet.
This feature is expected to compete with Google’s popular search engine that has dominated the online search market for years, although Google itself has begun integrating AI features into its own search engine.
