In an effort to leverage technological advancements for societal benefit and the promotion of human rights, Dr. Muhannad Al-Mubaidien, Minister of Government Communication and official spokesperson for the Jordanian government, emphasized the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating knowledge and facilitating scientific research. His remarks were made during the “Artificial Intelligence for Peace and Human Dignity” conference, organized by the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in collaboration with the Foundation for Educational Activities in Europe.
AI: Diverse Applications and Growing Importance
Al-Mubaidien highlighted the diverse applications of AI, which span social, economic, security, and even military fields. He noted that this technology plays a pivotal role in national protection and security enhancement. “We are witnessing remarkable advancements in AI software and applications capable of simulating voices and creating images of non-existent individuals,” he said, adding that media outlets must adopt these technologies to innovate their content.
Balancing Technology and Ethical Values
Despite the significance of AI, Al-Mubaidien stressed the need to balance technological progress with ethical values. “AI cannot develop ethics and attitudes; this is the responsibility of family upbringing and moral education,” he stated. He emphasized the necessity of directing knowledge and technology towards addressing poverty and achieving social justice.
Call for Active Community Participation
Al-Mubaidien urged citizens to engage with the electoral process and participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, noting that such involvement enhances community interaction and helps find solutions to national issues, thereby contributing to a more secure and stable country with sustainable freedoms.
AI and Human Dignity
Father Rifat Badr, Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media, underscored the importance of using AI to protect human dignity rather than exploiting it for purely political or economic gains. He referenced the 2020 Rome Declaration, which established six key ethical principles for AI: transparency, accountability, inclusivity, responsibility, impartiality, reliability, and security and privacy.
Jordan’s Commitment to Developing Religious Tourism Sites
During the conference, Magdi Badr, Knight of the Holy Sepulchre, emphasized Jordan’s significant commitment to developing religious and archaeological tourism sites to attract Christian pilgrims. He noted that these sites have become spiritual destinations offering unique experiences, rather than merely tourist attractions.
Conclusion
The conference featured a video presentation summarizing its objectives and the importance of AI in people’s lives, highlighting its role in showcasing capabilities and keeping pace with global developments. This event underscores the importance of AI as a vital tool for achieving peace and human dignity in the digital age.
