“Google” has taken steps to enhance the new search engine “AI Overviews”, which relies on generative artificial intelligence, after receiving reports from users about odd or potentially dangerous answers.
The major US company told “Agence France-Presse” on Friday that it swiftly took action when justified according to our content moderation policies.
Blogger Der Opassango posted a message explaining that when he asked about the number of Muslim presidents in the history of the United States, AI Overviews answered that Barack Obama “is considered by some as the first Muslim president”.
A spokeswoman for “Google” explained in her comment on this case that this result violated their policies and was consequently removed.
Another user, under the alias “PixelBits” on the “X” platform, shared a screenshot showing the search engine’s response to a question about how to prevent cheese from sticking to pizza.
In addition to mixing sauce with cheese, the search engine suggested adding non-toxic glue to the cheese.
Journalist Christy Haines on “X” platform noted that this response was inspired by a comment posted on the social media platform Reddit more than a decade ago.
The new president of the satirical site “The Onion” shed light on the connection between some responses and the comedic content published on their platform.
For example, the AI Overview search engine claimed that the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officially admitted to using black highlighters.
This search engine is based on a satirical article published by “The Onion” newspaper, indicating that the unread paragraphs in the agency’s documents were a result of error, not an intention to conceal specific content.
A spokesperson for “Google” said that the team “benefits from these examples to enhance our system, and some of these improvements have already been implemented”.
In mid-May, Google launched the “AI Overviews” feature, which provides written text as answers to searches instead of just displaying website links, as was the usual method before.
The links were not deleted, but placed at the bottom of the texts that appear in search results.
