Apple has collaborated with OpenAI to incorporate the advanced language model GPT-4o into the operating systems iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequioa. This collaboration was announced at the annual WWDC 2024 developers’ event.
Following the keynote at the WWDC 2024 conference, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, confirmed plans to collaborate with additional external models.
During his conversation with journalists after the main presentation, Federighi explained that Apple might integrate the Gemini app into its operating system as well.
Federighi announced the company’s aspirations to carry out integration operations with other models in the future, such as Gemini from Google. He emphasized that they are working towards achieving this goal but cannot disclose details at the moment.
These news are significant because Apple has expressed its intention to add new artificial intelligence models to its primary operating system without specifically revealing Gemini.
If individuals are allowed to choose the type of artificial intelligence they prefer on their devices, rather than being imposed with a specific model, it will give Apple devices a customization advantage that its competitors like Google and Samsung lack.
ChatGPT is the first model from OpenAI that will be integrated with external entities later this year.
As for Apple, users can easily access the chatbot without the need for registration or payment to benefit from the premium services.
Regarding the integration of ChatGPT with the updated version of Siri in iOS 18, Federighi confirmed that the user receives a notification from the voice assistant before being sent to the internal models.
The company’s CEO emphasized: “You can now easily do this through Siri technology without the need for additional tools.”
