A Korean and an Italian film were crowned at the Artificial Intelligence Film Festival at Expo Dubai, which encourages the integration of smart technologies with human creativity. The winners were announced during the awards ceremony at the Communication Center in the city.
The competition attracted more than 500 films from 89 countries, where a jury of 12 experts in cinema and technology – including the renowned director Shikar Kapoor and the award-winning creative technology expert Ben Grossman – evaluated the entries and selected the best film and director. The audience voted to choose the Audience Award, while Artificial Intelligence technology assessed the sound, image, and story for each participant to determine the AI Award.
The film “One More Beacon” by director Hansel Von Koon from South Korea won the Best Film and Audience Choice Award. This artistic film gained popularity for its balance between folklore and technological innovation in a story about an elderly couple defying time.
The film “Trita” by Italian director Francesco Siro won the Best Director Award for his unique story about a clown pretending to be the king of human temptations and organizing a battle for control. Siro also won the AI Choice Award from the “G-42” group, demonstrating how technology can provide a new way to review artistic works.
Mariam Fridoni, Head of Education and Culture in Expo Dubai, said the success of the first Artificial Intelligence Film Festival in the region reflects the quality and diversity of the presentations, and the depth of the topics discussed, enhancing a global platform for exploring technology, creativity, and the potential of artificial intelligence for evolution. The winning films embody the spirit of the festival and showcase new ways people can use to express themselves through the latest technologies.
She added that the Artificial Intelligence Film Festival has positioned the city as a hub for innovation in the field of artificial intelligence, and that the community is now focusing on the future and considering it a global platform for collaboration in big ideas, expressing her anticipation for more opportunities that will attract pioneers and innovative technologies.
The awards ceremony was attended by many prominent figures in the cinema and technology fields, in a night filled with film screenings and interactive displays of artificial intelligence, along with a performance by the Firdaus Orchestra playing music composed by artificial intelligence.
