Google has unveiled new enhancements to its Maps and search services. These additions aim to support electric vehicle owners by providing information about available charging stations, including a new feature that leverages artificial intelligence to make the process of finding charging stations easier.
One of the main concerns people have regarding electric vehicles is the possibility of running out of charge while driving and the difficulty of finding charging stations along the way.
With the increasing number of electric vehicle users, there is a growing need for access to charging station data, and the giant search company is taking steps to address this gap.
Considering that charging stations are often located in places that may be difficult to access, such as multi-level parking lots, Google Maps will introduce new summaries based on artificial intelligence in the coming months. These summaries will provide a description of the charging station location based on valuable insights extracted from reviews.
The guidance generated by artificial intelligence may suggest directions such as: “Head towards the underground parking area and follow the signs towards the exit, then turn right before you depart immediately.”
To ensure the inclusion of valuable information reviews that artificial intelligence can leverage to provide excellent descriptions of places, Google Maps highlights the need for its users by providing them with additional details about their experiences when they write reviews related to charging stations. These details include the type of socket used by customers and the waiting time.
Google is also working to enhance the in-vehicle maps experience by showing users nearby electric charging locations with detailed data such as socket availability in real-time and charging power rate.
The company aims to roll out this update globally, starting with vehicles equipped with Google’s integrated feature.
Vehicles with Google’s integrated technologies also benefit from improvements to the maps service launched by the company in 2023, providing users with recommendations for the most suitable electric vehicle charging stations.
This enhanced feature supports trips that include multiple stop points, allowing maps to recommend optimal charging points for users based on the location of their electric vehicles.
For electric vehicle owners planning trips that extend into the night, Google has included a new filtering feature for electric vehicle charging stations within its travel search tools at google.com/travel to help owners find hotels equipped with car charging facilities at their accommodations.
