Audi is upgrading the voice control capabilities in its current and future cars by integrating the ChatGPT technology available through Microsoft Azure OpenAI service.
The German company stated that it will begin integrating ChatGPT technology into its entertainment and information system starting next month.
Approximately two million owners of cars produced by the German company since 2021 can benefit from ChatGPT, provided that their cars are equipped with the third-generation MIB 3 information and entertainment system.
New vehicles, such as the Q6 e-tron, and upcoming models will include ChatGPT as part of the car’s voice assistant system.
Audi mentioned that the new feature relies on the Chat Pro solution from Cerence, which was developed as a result of the partnership with Microsoft in January 2024.
Audi drivers can now benefit from enhanced voice control to operate entertainment systems, navigation, and air conditioning as before, as well as ask general questions and get answers from ChatGPT.
The brand indicates that the ability to request information using natural language enhances driving safety, as it does not require taking eyes off the road at any moment.
When the Audi assistant is unable to answer inquiries, it refers them to ChatGPT for a response.
The overall experience is smooth thanks to the seamless integration with the Audi assistant.
To maintain privacy, questions and answers are deleted from the car’s system after processing, and ChatGPT cannot access any information related to the car.
OpenAI can retain your inquiries, and Audi assures that in the future, you will be able to inquire about car-related information, such as the appropriate tire pressure.
Markus Keith, Vice President of Interior Design, Information and Entertainment Systems, and Communication Development at Audi, mentioned that integrating the smart chatbot ChatGPT with voice control systems allows us to benefit from the advantages of both applications. He added that customers will now benefit from easy and secure access to AI-based information, representing a new step towards providing an exceptional cabin experience in Audi cars.
