In a move set to reshape the future of digital content, Chinese technology firms are launching advanced AI-Powered video generation models, offering powerful tools that transform text and images into high-quality videos for global users. These developments position China to compete with industry giants such as OpenAI’s “DALL-E.”
One of the standout models is “Vedo,” developed by Chinese company Shengshou in collaboration with Tsinghua University. Launched last week for global users, “Vedo” boasts features that allow the conversion of text and images into 1080p videos ranging from 4 to 8 seconds at the click of a button, according to Tang Jia Yu, co-founder and CEO of Shengshou. This model was unveiled at the Zhongguancun Forum 2024 in Beijing.
Far-reaching Impact on Content Creation
Tang believes this technology will expedite a potential revolution in the creative content industry, spanning from films to television animation. He anticipates that such tools will reduce costs and boost creativity, enabling the transformation of imaginative ideas into tangible productions regardless of budget constraints.
Tang’s statements underscore the critical role AI technologies will play in lowering production barriers and achieving economies of scale in the video production industry.
A Range of Models Emerging
“Vedo” is not the only model China has introduced in this field. Beijing-based company Qibo unveiled their “Ying” model last Friday, which also utilizes text-to-video and image-to-video technologies, as well as creating videos from existing footage.
In June of this year, short video platform KuaiShou launched “Kling,” a model noted for its high-precision simulation of motion and physics scenes.
China’s AI Technology in its Infancy
Despite these advancements, Zhang Peng, CEO of Qibo, noted that AI video generation technology in China is still in its early stages. He emphasized that the main challenge lies in developing high-quality data and algorithms.
Similarly, Wang Jing Tao, Vice Chairman of China’s National Cyberspace Administration, mentioned that the country has launched over 180 AI models so far, providing a variety of services to the public. These models have amassed around 564 million registered users.
Toward Innovative Applications
Huang Chengqing, Vice President of the China Internet Association, echoed the sentiment of many experts, stating that AI is transitioning from research innovation to practical application, thereby reinforcing the real economy. He stressed that this technology is no longer confined to laboratories but is becoming integral to daily production processes.
Bright Future for AI-Powered Video Technology
With the advancement of models like “Vedo” and ongoing research and development in AI, the future looks promising for the digital content industry. We could soon see high-quality cinematic productions at lower costs, with every user having the capability to turn their ideas into real scenes at the push of a button.
