Google is working on enhancing the feature of circular search “Circle to Search” in the Android system, aiming to assist students in solving school assignments in math and physics. This was mentioned by Google at the Google I/O 2024 developers conference.
This feature allows users to draw a circle around anything on the phone screen to search for it through Google. With the new updates, students can benefit from the Circle to Search feature to access artificial intelligence support in solving mathematical word problems in their school assignments.
According to Google, the purpose of this feature is not to do homework for users, but to provide assistance in dealing with various issues.
Through this feature, Google aims to reduce concerns about integrating artificial intelligence into the educational process. The company has also announced models of artificial intelligence for educational purposes named “LearnLM”. The feature of solving mathematical and physical problems is among the advantages that rely on those models.
Later this year, the circular search feature will also gain the ability to solve complex mathematical equations involving formulas, graphs, charts, and more.
The Circle to Search feature was first launched in the Galaxy S24 series of Samsung phones earlier this year, and it was made available on Google Pixel 8 phones and some other Android phones. Google says this feature is now available on over 100 million Android phones and aims to expand its coverage to 200 million phones by the end of 2024.
