The newspaper “Asahi Shimbun” reported on Saturday that Japan and the United States will announce a strengthened collaboration in advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence, in a joint statement when Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida meets with US President Joe Biden next month.
Biden is set to host the Japanese Prime Minister, who will make an official visit to the United States on April 10. The newspaper, without citing its sources, mentioned that the joint statement will describe the relationship between the two countries as a “global partnership” and will call for stronger cooperation in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies.
The newspaper mentioned that Japan and the United States are likely to establish a framework for artificial intelligence research and development as part of the agreement, in collaboration with companies such as Nvidia, ARM, and Amazon, among others.
In recent months, the United States has taken strong actions to halt shipments of advanced artificial intelligence chips to China, as part of its efforts to prevent Beijing from acquiring advanced American technology that could enhance its military.
