Microsoft has unveiled a new lineup of laptops powered by the Windows operating system and backed by cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies. These devices are known as “Copilot Plus +Copilot.”
These laptops will come equipped with a variety of premium features driven by artificial intelligence, sophisticated functionalities seamlessly integrated into the Windows 11 system by default.
Microsoft has established specific criteria for the inclusion of devices in the “Copilot Plus” category, which includes the requirement of an advanced Neural Processing Unit (NPU). The latest Snapdragon X chips from Qualcomm are among the initial processors in the market meeting these criteria. Other devices utilizing chips from Intel and AMD will be launched later this year.
Microsoft is introducing exclusive artificial intelligence capabilities for Copilot Plus devices, such as the “Recall” feature, enabling users to effortlessly retrieve information through search, visual and contextual recognition technologies, on-screen automatic translations, enhancement of image and text creation, advanced effects within Windows Studio, and more.
Microsoft highlights the background “Recall” functionality that remembers all user interactions on the computer, allowing for easy content retrieval through natural language search. This feature is universally applicable across all applications, facilitating convenient access to conversations, web pages, documents, images, or videos.
Microsoft positions this feature as a robust productivity tool, showcasing the potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing daily workflow. With the integrated timeline interface, users can navigate through various stored snapshots based on search parameters, simplifying the process of finding specific content.
For instance, when searching for “cats,” relevant instances related to cats will appear in the timeline for easy access.
In addition, the Recall feature can interpret the current on-screen content and suggest contextual actions like image editing or document comparisons, among other useful functions.
Other functionalities include real-time translation of voice or video content on the screen into English from over forty languages without relying on external servers, as well as incorporating advanced live effects for webcams, improving lighting, and more.
Computer manufacturers will commence launching their new devices within the “Copilot Plus” category starting in June, with the artificial intelligence features set to roll out later this year.
