Deezer, the music streaming platform, has announced the development of a new technology based on artificial intelligence that allows for the detection and removal of songs that mimic artists’ voices.
Deezer strongly affirmed its desire to eliminate illegal and fraudulent content to protect artists, following the emergence of a new wave of songs using artificial intelligence to replicate the voices of real stars.
The emerging French startup, which holds a small share of the UK streaming market but is widely popular in France and parts of South America, explained that its new product will label music created using generative smart technology, starting with songs that utilize the voices of current “Deezer” artists.
These audio clips will also be identified, and notifications will be sent to production companies, artists, and other rights holders, who can then determine the necessary actions to be taken.
A spokesperson for the platform confirmed that this ethical use of artificial intelligence and technology is not opposed to AI music as long as it is created ethically, complies with the law and intellectual property rights, and ensures that artists receive fair compensation.
Comparing the spread of AI-generated songs to the dissemination of misinformation on social media platforms, where very few music pieces are currently created online using deepfake voice technology.
The spokesperson also pointed out that Deezer is using its tool to eliminate “fake musicians,” who use aliases, lack a clear online presence, yet produce hundreds of simplistic songs to circumvent the payment system.
