The Algerian Minister of Housing, Urbanism, and City Mustapha Belaribi announced the development of an artificial intelligence-based application called “Dima”. This application contributes to providing accurate and immediate damage maps.
This tool serves as a decision-making tool for local and central authorities regarding emergency measures, and it was created thanks to the efforts of Algerian engineers.
The statement by the Minister of Housing and Urbanism came on the occasion of the media day on reducing earthquake risks, “Path and Perspectives”, at the lecture hall of the Adel Sâad Hamdine Agency, in the capital city of Algiers.
Structural measures have also been strengthened through investment in establishing a laboratory affiliated with the National Center for Applied Research in Seismic Engineering (CGS). Equipped with the latest devices for testing structures and equipment such as the shaking table. The national network of the center has been reinforced with devices used to monitor and record seismic waves. Additionally, expertise has been acquired in assessing post-earthquake damages to buildings through the National Technical Control Authority for Construction (CTC).
This process is now conducted digitally through the development of an AI-based application called “Dima,” which helps in providing accurate and immediate damage maps.
This tool is a decision-making aid for local and central authorities on emergency measures and was established thanks to Algerian engineers.
Algeria has adopted a disaster risk reduction strategy and played a significant role in establishing the Arab Center for Seismic and Other Natural Disaster Prevention, headquartered in Algeria.
