Instagram officially announced the availability of a new feature that allows users in the United States to edit the background of their photos using artificial intelligence technology.
Ahmed Dahel, the head of the Generative Artificial Intelligence division at Meta, stated on his Twitter account that the new tool will enable users to modify the background of photos when sharing them as stories.
When users choose a photo to share as a story on Instagram, they will notice an icon for the background editor in the image. By clicking on it, the person or main element in the image is recognized, and the background is completely removed.
People can write textual instructions describing the desired background, allowing the image editor to automatically generate this background. Furthermore, they can also utilize the ready-made suggestions available in the top toolbar.
When the user publishes the story created by artificial intelligence, others will see a “Try it” sticker with ready-made commands that they can use to manipulate the image background as well.
This new tool offers unlimited options for backgrounds that can be used or imagined for images, quickly edits images, and almost accurately separates elements from the background in all cases.
It’s worth noting that changing the background of images can be done using standard image editing software or smartphone applications, but what sets Instagram’s tool apart is its integration within the app itself and its utilization of the artificial intelligence capabilities provided by Meta.
Meta recently launched a new online image creation tool called “Imagin,” which relies on its proprietary model for generating images called Emo. This move is part of the company’s strategy to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into its diverse services.
