This strategy aims to quintuple the current capacity and generate added value of up to AED 14.3 billion by 2028. The initiative is expected to create new job opportunities in the digital economy and enhance Dubai’s position as an incubator for the data industry, which has become a vital factor in driving economic growth across various sectors.
Preparedness for Next-Generation Technologies
According to a study by Them, this strategic vision is expected to enhance Dubai’s readiness for next-generation technologies such as Web 3.0, the Metaverse, smart cities, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This development will solidify Dubai’s status as a leading destination for sustainable data centers, equipped for AI applications and usage by 2028.
Dubai Digital Strategy
This move is part of executing the Dubai Digital Strategy, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to make the emirate a global model for digital transformation. Dubai Digital has announced practical steps to implement this strategic vision for the data center economy, in collaboration with partners from both the public and private sectors. These efforts align with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda “D33,” which aims to boost Dubai’s economic productivity by 50% through adopting digital solutions and innovation.
Partnerships and Collaboration
Dubai Digital is working closely with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Municipality, the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, and Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism. These coordinated efforts aim to enhance Dubai’s leadership and readiness for the future economy. The collaboration focuses on developing high-performance computing, utilizing liquid cooling systems, and providing advanced data centers powered by renewable energy.
Supporting AI Investment
H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Dubai Digital, affirmed that the UAE possesses competitive advantages that qualify it to be a leading global destination for sustainable data centers. He added that Dubai’s digital economy is a cornerstone of the Dubai Digital Strategy, which aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to the emirate’s overall economy by approximately $100 billion. He noted that the AI-powered data center economy represents a transformative strategic project reliant on skilled and experienced competencies.
Vision of Wise Leadership
H.E. Younus Al Nasser, CEO of the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, stated that Dubai is moving towards adopting new economic models and business patterns, opening significant economic horizons. Hadi Badri, CEO of the Dubai Economic Development Corporation, added that the strategic vision for AI-powered data centers reflects the wise leadership’s vision, enabling Dubai to maintain its advanced position in the global digital economy.
