The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (Dyze), in collaboration with Aramex, a logistics services company, have announced the start of testing an autonomous robotic delivery system in Dubai Silicon Oasis. The initiative aims to integrate self-sustainable delivery vehicles into the urban environment of Dubai, in line with Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040 and its vision to convert 25% of the transportation system to a self-driving system by 2030.
The robot trial will last for three months, with the goal of achieving full operation by September. This trial aims to measure the efficiency of the robot in real conditions, where it will deliver over 1000 parcels within the Sidra Villas complex during this period, helping to reduce carbon emissions by over 500 kilograms.
The test will begin by covering the Sidra Villas complex in Dubai Silicon Oasis, introducing an advanced delivery robot with multiple compartments, a significant improvement compared to previous single-compartment robots. This update enhances operational efficiency by allowing for multiple delivery operations in each trip. The robot is equipped with advanced technologies such as precision cameras, multiple human interaction elements, and comprehensive video coverage to ensure optimal performance in indoor and outdoor environments. The robot’s design includes a replaceable battery and eight compartments of varying sizes to meet daily logistical requirements in urban areas. Residents awaiting parcels from Aramex will be provided with a secure secret code for receiving their shipments, ensuring safety and security.
Dyze intends to expand this initiative to include its other economic zones, including Dubai Airport Free Zone and “Dubai Commercity.”
Engineer Maamar Al Katheeri, Executive Director of Engineering and Sustainability at Dyze, announced that the partnership with Aramex reflects Dyze’s commitment to developing innovative solutions that support sustainable urban development in Dubai, in line with the goals of Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040. He explained that launching carbon-neutral delivery robots in Dubai Silicon Oasis, as part of the city’s smart strategy focusing on smart mobility, confirms Dyze’s commitment to adopting advanced technology for a sustainable future.
Tarek Abu Yaghi, General Manager of Aramex, stated: “This initiative demonstrates our commitment to providing smart, efficient, and customer-oriented services, showcasing the proactive and comprehensive approach that we adopt.”
