France plans to test video surveillance systems based on artificial intelligence this week, expected to be used at the Olympics taking place this summer in the capital, Paris.
Authorities in Paris have allowed the railway company and transportation companies to analyze images from over 100 cameras using smart technology.
The test will be conducted during the music band “Black Eyed Peas” concert at “Defence Arena” and during a football match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais at “Parc des Princes” stadium.
The program aims to identify individuals entering sensitive and non-public areas, as well as monitoring the movements of crowds in hazardous areas, unusual public gatherings, and lost luggage.
The first test was conducted last month at two concerts of the band “Depeche Mode”.
This method is planned to be used in the Paris Olympics scheduled between July 26 and August 11, but without facial recognition technology used under specific conditions in France, body scanning technologies will be used in the Paris Olympics venues.
Surveillance systems using artificial intelligence have not yet achieved their objectives. However, the Paris Olympics are seen as a good opportunity to achieve that.
Security is considered an important aspect of the Olympics, as the opening ceremony will be different this time, with athletes being transported by boats across the Seine River to Paris instead of having the ceremony at the stadium.
France has raised its alert level to the maximum after the attacks in the Russian capital, Moscow, during a music concert.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that in case of terrorist threats, the opening ceremony could be moved to Trocadero Square or Stade de France.
The Olympics are planned to be secured by thousands of police officers and security forces.
