Some individuals believe that artificial intelligence will lead to job loss and increased social inequality. In contrast, others trust that the proper application of artificial intelligence can enhance productivity and create new opportunities.
The use of artificial intelligence is convenient and helpful, but at the same time, it can make one feel guilt.
Generation Z (those born after 1996) possess the ability to understand the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace more than anyone else. A study conducted by EduBirdie surveyed the opinions of 2000 young individuals from Generation Z in the United States to explore how they use ChatGPT in their work.
36% of Generation Z employees utilize artificial intelligence to process tasks more efficiently. On the other hand, many of them struggle with feelings of guilt and dependency due to continued use of artificial intelligence. 18% say that AI hinders their ability to be creative and think critically.
These conflicting interactions may indicate that Generation Z is more aware of the potential consequences of using technology compared to previous generations. They have grown up in an era where technology has rapidly evolved, with many issues revolving around the social and ethical impacts of artificial intelligence. Therefore, they cannot hide the feeling of “instability when becoming dependent on artificial intelligence for performing tasks.”
Another factor may be attributed to the lack of necessary education and training on how to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) logically and effectively. Studies reveal that 20% of individuals from Generation Z faced difficulties in using artificial intelligence in the workplace. Even 2% of them were dismissed due to the use of ChatGPT.
I Can’t Believe AI Could Replace Me
Despite the challenges, artificial intelligence holds many benefits. Studies indicate that around half of Generation Z individuals agree that AI makes them more creative. Among every seven individuals, one person says that artificial intelligence helps them increase their income.
This shows that artificial intelligence has the potential to improve productivity and create new opportunities, especially in fields requiring creativity and innovation.
Survey results show that 61% of Generation Z use ChatGPT for research and studying, 56% rely on this technology for generating ideas and solutions, and 42% use it for writing and creating content. Only 23% use artificial intelligence to modify their resumes during job applications to appear more distinctive to employers.
A recent survey revealed that Generation Z is not very concerned about the possibility of AI replacing them in the workplace. Only 9% believe this could happen by 2024. However, 61% see that AI might take over their jobs in the next ten years.
Specifically, due to regular use of artificial intelligence for coding languages, individuals working in this field may feel apprehensive about being replaced by AI. Nevertheless, while AI-supported applications like ChatGPT possess massive amounts of data for programming, they lack the necessary expertise and specialization to solve very specific or complex problems.
AI Composer Deprived of Receiving Financial Copyrights
Over the past five years, AI composer Lee Boom sold 30,000 songs, earning revenues of 600 million won. However, AI cannot be recognized as an author, and South Korea announced the discontinuation of paying copyright royalties to AI composers.
