Google, the American technology company, announced its intention to incorporate a comprehensive range of features and updates to its mapping and navigation service, Google Maps, in the coming weeks and months. The company will integrate Street View with satellite imagery to facilitate navigation and exploration for users.
In a statement published online, Google mentioned the “Immersive View for Routes” feature that was first unveiled at the Google I/O conference earlier this year. The Immersive View feature offers users an enhanced visual representation of the road, displaying buildings and trees to provide them with a realistic view of the world on their mobile devices.
The major American company stated that it is utilizing artificial intelligence technologies to compile billions of Street View and aerial images, with the goal of enabling users to see the restaurant or park they plan to visit in real life.
The Immersive View feature is set to launch this week in several cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo, and Venice. This feature will be available to users of Android and iOS operating systems. These notes are based on the specialized technology news site “CNET.”
In addition to Google Emergency View, Google has also introduced the “Lens in Maps” feature, which assists users in directing Google Maps using their mobile phone camera. Sometimes, Google Maps faces difficulty in determining a person’s direction when they exit onto a side street where GPS satellite signals reception is lost.
In such cases, the user’s mobile phone camera can be used so that Google can leverage artificial intelligence and augmented reality algorithms to better identify the user’s location. Furthermore, the Lens service will display information that helps identify the nearest ATM, restaurants, and cafes.
This service will be available in 50 other cities around the world, such as Austin, Las Vegas, Rome, Sao Paulo, and Taipei.
