Google has recognized the importance of the experimental chatbot Bard, as it serves as a means to introduce another product aimed at billions of users based on its improvement. In statements during an annual live press event named NEXT hosted by Reuters, Jack Kroshik, a senior product manager at the company, spoke.
Engaging with the chatbot offers consumers the opportunity to exchange ideas and obtain information through new artificial intelligence technology, and Kroshik pointed out that Bard paves the way for Google to attract more customers.
Jack Kroshik stated: “The company’s primary goal is to enhance the Google Assistant’s ability to set timers and execute commands through human recommendations, viewing this as a significant opportunity.”
He added, “By linking these products in the coming months across mobile devices, artificial intelligence will be made accessible to all individuals, and we believe this will open up an entirely new pathway.”
Google’s expectations shed light on the ambitions of its parent company, Alphabet, in the field of artificial intelligence, as the parent company owns six products, each attracting billions of users, including the search engine and YouTube.
Amazon pledged to enhance Alexa, its voice assistant, using generative artificial intelligence technology, as Google’s expectations indicate increasing competition. Additionally, OpenAI had previously introduced voice commands for its AI-powered robot ChatGPT, among other capabilities.
Google Assistant operates across more than one billion devices, according to data provided by the company. The way information is accessed by consumers is also evolving, with traffic on Bard increasing by 2 percent in October to reach 8.7 million, while its competitor ChatGPT continues to grow rapidly, and during the same period, traffic on Google’s search engine decreased by an estimated 0.4 percent.
User retention rates vary over time through providing quick and accurate responses. Kroshik noted that his task is to enhance the utility of Bard rather than impeding income-generating opportunities, such as subscription models or advertisements, possible opportunities that may arise.
Bard has faced various challenges, creating non-existent messages after a user requested it to analyze the content of an email in their Gmail inbox. This is a tangible case of AI behavior known as hallucination when fact-checking.
Earlier this month, we encountered difficulties accessing Bard due to high demand from people wanting to use it, and OpenAI informed us on the same day that accessing ChatGPT was also unavailable.
Kroshik mentioned that many large language model products had simultaneously malfunctioned, noting that it was useful to see changes in behavioral patterns online, as they are still learning how to interact with large groups of people more effectively. He added that this shutdown was a challenge for a few minutes and brought back memories of what he faced in 2009 when confronted by the search engine (Google).
