Google announced a new feature in its Photos app that simplifies image search using artificial intelligence during the Google I/O 2024 developer conference.
Shortly after the introduction of this feature, Google Photos will request new permissions to activate a function called Ask Photos by Google.
The new feature aims to assist users in quickly and accurately accessing the desired images by using distinctive image criteria.
The “Ask Photos” feature can help retrieve information and provide answers to image-related questions through Google’s artificial intelligence assistant “Gemini.”
Google provided an example of a search using a car license plate in one of the images to obtain multiple details about the license, car model, and other matters.
In another instance, the Gemini assistant was able to determine the time a child started learning to swim and the child’s age based on some swimming images that were available.
The Ask Photos feature also relies on other factors to identify images, such as upload date and geographical location, to facilitate the search process.
This feature will also be available for use with videos, but Google has not yet provided a direct demonstration or practical example.
The rollout of this feature is expected to begin in the coming months, and it has not been specified whether Google requires an internet connection to function or not.
