Today, Intel announced the launch of a new series of advanced Central Processing Units (CPUs) based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology (SDV SoC), specifically designed for use in the automotive industry.
Intel believes that Artificial Intelligence will have a significant impact on the automotive market, bringing about a radical change in the automotive world. Intel has shown its focus on the automotive AI market by acquiring Silicon Mobility SAS, a company specializing in designing and manufacturing SoC semiconductor chips for power management in AI-equipped electric vehicles.
The acquisition, announced just hours ago without revealing full details, will strengthen Intel’s ability to improve energy management efficiency in electric vehicles using AI technologies.
Concurrently with the acquisition announcement, Intel also revealed its collaboration with Zeker, a sub-brand of Geely, to be the first company to manufacture Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment using Intel’s “SDV SoC” processors.
Intel and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) announce the formation of a committee to develop industry standards for energy management in electric vehicles, with Intel leading this committee.
The system-on-chip (SoC) processors play a key role in operating the dashboard and entertainment systems in vehicles, as well as ensuring safety through the use of technologies like radar, cameras, and Lidar sensing system, a remote sensing technology used to examine the road surface with autonomous vehicles.
Here comes the impact of integrated AI processors in instantly analyzing data to differentiate accurately while making decisions, ensuring the driver and vehicle’s safety.
The first generation of Intel SDV SoC processors reaches up to 12 cores, with power consumption ranging from 12 to 45 watts. These processors also feature an integrated graphics processing unit (Arc Xe), supporting up to four independent screens with up to 8K resolution. Due to the stringent safety standards in the automotive industry, the SDV SoC processor series is AEC-Q100 certified.
