The Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Na’im Al-Obaidi, announced on Sunday 7 measures taken by the ministry to support advancements in the field. The Minister emphasized the importance of the artificial intelligence growth rates indicator in developing knowledge and utilizing it in various scientific fields.
Al-Obaidi stated during a conference held in collaboration with the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue at the University of Baghdad under the title “Artificial Intelligence and the Potential for Transformation in Humanities,” that it is the responsibility of academic institutions to review scientific thinking and evaluate the reaction to knowledge developments. He highlighted the impact on various disciplines and the utilization for community service. He explained that open conferences on science and technology fields are highly important in the current rapid advancement, especially with the evolution of the field and the increasing need to utilize it in various sectors.
He emphasized that “the Ministry of Education is focusing on the path that led to launching the Artificial Intelligence Award for Scientific Research and establishing specialized programs in primary and higher education. In addition to supporting scientific theses and research that enhance this goal and offering scholarships to our students in the field of artificial intelligence in several international universities.” He also explained that “the rapid growth in the field requires thinking about transformative aspects and responsibilities that provide significant opportunities to expand knowledge in all fields, including humanities. Those working in this sector must benefit from this development and use it in education, work hard to develop tools, technologies, and research that enhance the ability to understand and address current challenges.”
“Exchanging experiences in these conferences represents a positive opportunity to utilize for achieving transformation and investing in capacities,” pointing out that “it is essential to benefit from these scientific conferences to build bridges of cooperation and communication between different specialties, educational knowledge, academic and research capacities.”

During the conference, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Ali Abdul Amir, stated that “This is the first of its kind conference addressing the role of humanities sciences and responsibilities in the field of artificial intelligence.” He explained that the conference is an opportunity for intellectual and cognitive exchange, and academic dialogue to find secure and effective methods to employ these applications.
He called for “enhancing humanity sciences with societal values and ethics,” emphasizing the “importance of integrating ethics in using humanity sciences, considering social and cultural changes, and developing a plan to integrate their applications in curricula at various levels.”
“In this conference, we will discuss research utilizing artificial intelligence applications in the fields of archaeology, psychology, language, geography, sociology, and philosophy, with 56 research papers presented in 18 axes from 20 countries. He noted that this conference marks the beginning of implementing education based on artificial intelligence, assisting us in managing the vast amount of information and data, facilitating research and retrieval.”
We will work on utilizing the conference to develop a strategy for humanities sciences for artificial intelligence in various fields, levels, and tasks.
