Jordan has signed a contract to implement the use of artificial intelligence in the planning and operation system of electric loads, within the framework of the Joint Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the company “Algebra Intelligence” specialized in energy monitoring solutions. Building and developing the supportive system for artificial intelligence in Jordan, to enhance the use of emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, and to apply artificial intelligence use cases in priority sectors in Jordan.
Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Hnandah clarified during the signing ceremony that the artificial intelligence project in the planning and operation system for electric loads is the first pilot project within the agreement between Jordan and Japan, and it was selected due to the importance of the energy sector and its direct and significant impact on the national economy. The project aims to assist in making decisions regarding the operation of traditional and alternative energy generation systems through the use of artificial intelligence in the planning and operation system of electric loads, to predict electric loads and their impact on weather conditions regarding operators of the control and command center.
Hnandah confirmed that the project is an implementation of the technical agreement between the two parties in the field of artificial intelligence and there will be a range of future projects in various sectors that enhance the applications of artificial intelligence in different fields such as health, agriculture, education, and others. These joint efforts will greatly contribute to advancing technological progress and promoting economic development, opening new doors for innovation and economic opportunities in Jordan.
For his part, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, emphasized the importance of developing the Jordanian electrical network and using artificial intelligence in the planning and operation system for electric loads to maximize the utilization of the large generating capacity of renewable energy stations and manage them by aligning between generation centers and consumption centers, and the ability to predict consumption patterns in the future using artificial intelligence.
Al-Kharabsheh pointed to the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with partners, to transform the energy sector into a smart sector, expressing his thanks to the Japanese side for supporting Jordan in various sectors, especially in the energy sector.
Regarding the companies that applied for the project, the Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies Directorate, Luma Arabiyat, stated that 16 local companies showed interest in participating in signing the project contract with the Japanese side. Eleven companies managed to achieve the highest financial and technical evaluation, and the Japanese side selected “Algebra Intelligence” company for execution.
