Algeria and China enjoy deep-rooted and ancient friendly relations, characterized by mutual respect and equal treatment, providing support to each other. Six years ago, the young Algerian, Brak Murad, moved from the coastal city of Oran in Algeria across the sea to Dalian in northeast China with the aim of obtaining a doctoral degree. Throughout his long years of studying and living there, Brak achieved accomplishments in his scientific research and gradually improved his proficiency in the Chinese language.
Murad pointed out to Xinhua that his original city, Oran, is considered like Dalian, a charming port city on the coast. For this reason, he prefers to spend his leisure time on the beaches of Dalian, enjoying the scenic views there, and in the summer days, he loves to dive into the sea. Moreover, the beach hosts many restaurants offering delicious dishes.
At Dalian University of Technology, Murad engaged in research projects related to the field of artificial intelligence, focusing on “Predicting traffic patterns in time and space.” During his pursuit of a doctoral degree, he was greatly impressed by the distinguished research environment and the hard work that Chinese students put in. He was struck by the advanced achievements made by Chinese researchers in the field of artificial intelligence, claiming that 80% of studies in this field were published by Chinese scientists, indicating that his Chinese peers are characterized by a vibrant spirit of scientific pursuit, prompting him to follow their example and exert more effort. His admiration was not limited to theories and data, but he was amazed by the precise practical applications of artificial intelligence that have permeated daily life in China. He personally witnessed the rapid pace at which technologies and sciences are evolving in China; for instance, some innovations coming from their research were quickly integrated into the lives of citizens within a few years, while in other countries, it might take longer debate before practical adoption.
During his doctoral studies in China, Murad participated in a project for intelligent navigation systems in collaboration with Chinese internet companies and universities. In doing so, he visited remote villages and witnessed firsthand the efforts of smart poverty alleviation, discovering how artificial intelligence contributes to driving rural development. He observed the rapid growth of e-commerce in China, making it easier for rural residents to buy and sell goods online. Conversely, rural Algerians face difficulties in conducting commercial transactions. He expressed hope that his city in Algeria would adopt similar strategies from China to develop e-commerce soon.
During his studies in China, Murad visited many cities there and was fascinated by their history, culture, and diverse natural beauty. As a professional, he was particularly impressed by the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the tourism and travel sector. During his conversation with the journalist, he mentioned visiting major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Wuxi, and Shenzhen, noting their continuous development and change day by day, reflecting the rapid growth and progress China is experiencing.
Murad considers that the strong alliance based on cooperation between China and Algeria not only creates significant growth opportunities for both countries but also opens doors for both peoples to interact and benefit from more developmental opportunities. He explained that the market in China is characterized by its size, which in turn contributes to the development of both China and other countries. The cooperation between China and Algeria is distinguished by bringing mutual benefits to both parties, expressing his deep gratitude for this partnership that allowed him the opportunity to study in China.
Later, Murad will complete his academic stage and start transitioning to the job market. He believes that China has great capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence and will offer many developmental opportunities for individuals from all corners of the world. He mentioned that he has lived in China for six years and has adapted to life there, expressing his hope to find a suitable job in the field of artificial intelligence in the future.
