Opera has announced enhancing the capabilities of its built-in smart assistant, “Aria,” by integrating Google’s artificial intelligence models “Gemini,” allowing users to experience improved performance.
Opera had previously launched the smart assistant “Aria,” relying on large language models (LLMs) from OpenAI before partnering with Google. According to the company, the smart engine integrated into the browser has the ability to understand the user’s intent based on the query presented, then selecting the most suitable model to perform the required task.
This means that the browser will automatically determine the most suitable model for each query, but it’s not yet clear whether it will offer users the option to manually switch between models.
Opera explained that integrating Gemini models enables the browser to provide the latest information with high performance for its users. Google develops and offers Gemini models in various versions that suit the needs of different users and companies, integrating them significantly into its services, apps, and the Android system.
Opera collaborated with Google to introduce new features in the smart assistant Aria as part of the Artificial Intelligence Updates program. Now users can use the feature to generate new images based on Google’s Imagen 2 model for free, in addition to listening to Aria reading responses in its own voice using Google’s text-to-speech conversion model.
Opera is testing these new features in a trial version of the browser, and they are expected to be available to all users at a later time.
