Mediatek has unveiled its latest development in Android smartphone processors in the mid-range category, the Dimensity 8300, which offers a wide range of features and capabilities.
Last week, the processor manufacturer announced the release of the Dimensity 9300 processor, which competes with Qualcomm processors, with improved RedCap capabilities and 5G modem chips.
The company has developed its octa-core Dimensity 8300 processor using second-generation manufacturing technology based on a 4-nanometer manufacturing process from TSMC.
The processor consists of four Cortex-A510 cores running at frequencies up to 3.35 gigahertz, as well as four Cortex-A715 cores running at 2.2 gigahertz.
All eight cores are based on the Armv9 CPU architecture, resulting in a 20% performance increase at peak performance and 30% less power consumption compared to the previous Dimensity 8200 processor.
The company has equipped the processor with an Arm Mali-G615 MC6 graphics processing unit to enhance gaming performance and utilize Mediatek’s Adaptive Gaming technology for a seamless experience.
This results in achieving a high performance rate of up to 60% with a 55% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous version.
The new chip also supports quad-channel LPDDR5X RAM, providing speeds of up to 8533 megabits per second, in addition to its support for UFS 4.0 storage that meets artificial intelligence needs.
The company has made significant efforts to develop the processor to be suitable for daily use in the field of generative artificial intelligence, by equipping the Mediatek Dimensity 8300 processor with the seventh generation of APU 780 unit, capable of handling heavy artificial intelligence tasks.
In general, the new APU 780 unit boasts a high computing power up to 3.3 times higher than the performance of the Dimensity 8200 processor in the field of artificial intelligence. This unit also supports large language models and has a refined stable deployment technology, allowing advantages such as real-time translation, text summarization, and creative writing practice.
The Imagiq 980 image processor supports a variety of camera sensors with resolutions up to 320 megapixels, as well as the ability to record high-quality 4K videos at 60 frames per second.
The Dimensity 8300 chip stands out for providing integrated 5G network support, with download speeds of up to 5.17 gigabits per second. The MediaTek processor is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity.
The Dimensity 8300 processor holds a significant share in upcoming mid-range smartphones in the market, and the improvements made by Mediatek suggest a potential reduction in the gap between flagship phones and affordable devices.
