Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence organized an exciting experience hosting around 300 students from schools in the United Arab Emirates and representatives of the university in the metaverse world.
The aim of this experience was to introduce students to generative technology and enable them to explore its capabilities in the field of creativity. This step comes as part of the university’s efforts to facilitate youth access to artificial intelligence.
The series “AI Armchair Chats” kicked off with the title “Can Artificial Intelligence Give Us Superhuman Abilities?” organizing meetings with artificial intelligence and industry leaders. Students attended an interactive event explaining the “GPT” model, the large linguistic model for the Arabic language launched in collaboration between the AI Institute of “G41” Group, “Cyberpass Systems” American company, and Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence.
A survey was conducted after the meeting involving the participating students aged between 12 and 15. Most of them (77%) said that their generation needs artificial intelligence skills to secure future job opportunities.
Sultan Al Hajji, Vice President of the University for Public Affairs and Alumni Relations, who inaugurated the event, stated: “We hope that these students will join the Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence in the future, especially since the UAE has integrated an artificial intelligence strategy into its national vision. This means that enhancing competencies and knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence among young people is an essential element in achieving long-term economic and social goals in the country. Therefore, events like the “AI Armchair Chats” aim to promote dialogue with the public about the benefits of artificial intelligence, with the goal of progress through each discussion.”
Professor Hao Li, Associate Professor in the Computer Vision Department and Director of the Metaverse Lab at Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence- during the event- traced the history of artificial intelligence, explained the benefits of this technology for consumers and industries simultaneously, and mentioned various contributions that artificial intelligence makes in improving human life, such as composing tasks to enable humans to unleash their creativity in more complex creative works. Professor Li presented an advanced AI-based program that can create 3D images to enhance learning, and provided details on the university’s research in developing future applications based on artificial intelligence in remote attendance and languages, aiding in enhancing the education sector.
Expert Marco Tempesta, working as a creative technologies expert at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and a graduate of the Media Lab’s Director’s Fellows program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, showcased some of his transformative technology works, such as Metaverse and the use of robots and artificial intelligence. He also presented a model of advanced technologies that create an immersive human experience through the use of the green screen. Tempesta explained how artificial intelligence can help individuals of all ages and specialties to achieve their goals.
Mohammed Bin Zayed University, in its mission to support talents and enhance the AI-based economy in the UAE, revealed that 68% of the participating students said their involvement in the session made them consider working in the field of artificial intelligence.
As education is the foundation of research at Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence, it offers master’s and doctoral programs to students enabling them to collaborate with faculty members and researchers to develop AI-based tools that enhance critical thinking in the field of education. This also involves preparing projects that facilitate advanced learning opportunities for students worldwide through technology.
