Collaboration between Microsoft and the Artificial Intelligence platform Inworld to develop Xbox tools that empower developers to create characters, stories, and tasks enhanced by Artificial Intelligence.
As part of our ongoing partnership for several years, the intelligent design assistant system allows developers in Xbox to create detailed scenarios, dialogue trees, task plans, and more.
Hayan Zhang, General Manager of Artificial Intelligence at Xbox platform, stated: “We believe at Xbox platform that creators can create more extraordinary games using advanced tools. This partnership combines Inworld’s expertise in working with artificial development models for character development and Microsoft’s advanced cloud-computing-based Artificial Intelligence solutions.”
The diverse Artificial Intelligence toolset includes smart design assistant for texts and dialogues, the smart character engine that can be integrated into games and used to create stories, tasks, and dialogues in a refreshing way.
Non-player artificial intelligence characters in Inworld evolve, responding to player questions in a manner similar to how ChatGPT or Bing Chat responses to inquiries in natural language.
Non-player artificial intelligence characters respond with unique voices, may contain complex dialogue trees, or unique dynamic stories within the game.
The “In-World” technology can also be used in narration, allowing this type of characters in combat games to alert about enemy teams or nearby players.
Elie Geifenvain, CEO of Inworld, said: “Artificial Intelligence is an integral part of game development, varying from the use of aggressive artificial intelligence characters to generative productivity. The emergence of large language models and generative artificial intelligence has opened up new opportunities for storytelling and attracting characters into games.”
Microsoft offers this feature as an optional tool for game developers, and thus it is up to developers to determine the level of generative artificial intelligence in future games.
Using generative artificial intelligence in creative fields such as game design or voice acting is a controversial issue. Video game industry workers face many challenges, similar to professionals in the film and television industry, due to the potential exploitative nature of artificial intelligence.
Microsoft provides the tools as an assistant in a manner similar to the Copilot Artificial Intelligence system for Windows products and Microsoft 365.
