Microsoft announced on Wednesday its intention to create infrastructure in Thailand to enhance the development of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, pledging to train over 100,000 individuals.
Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, stated in Bangkok that Thailand has a “great opportunity to build on a future” centered on digital technology and artificial intelligence.
Nadella pointed out that the establishment of suitable data centers, along with investments in cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, as well as AI training, form the basis of our long-term commitment in the country.
Microsoft stated in a press release that its investments will benefit over 100,000 people in Thailand, contributing to the development in this region.
Although considered a key economic player in Southeast Asia, Bangkok remains lagging behind in new technology compared to Indonesia and Singapore.
Nadella announced during his visit to Indonesia on Tuesday an investment of $1.7 billion in artificial intelligence and cloud computing to support the development of AI infrastructure in the archipelago. This investment was announced after his meeting with the Indonesian President.
The CEO of Microsoft is scheduled to meet with the Thai Prime Minister, who also aims to develop AI and cloud computing infrastructure.
According to the specialized committee in this field, the development of the digital economy could contribute up to around 30% of the GDP by 2027.
Thailand is the last stop in Nadella’s Asian tour.
Microsoft has announced investments in billions of dollars in AI outside the country in the past few months, aiming to remain among the key players in this vibrant market, after achieving better than expected results at the beginning of the year.
The success of ChatGPT developed by “OpenAI,” a startup company, has propelled generative AI technology forward and also been a significant driving force for Microsoft, the key partner of “OpenAI”.
