Talal bin Said Al Maamari, the CEO of Omantel, stated during the media meeting organized by the company at its headquarters that Omantel is following the digital revolution sweeping the telecommunications and information technology sector worldwide. He also highlighted that the company aligns with the goals of the national program for the digital economy by adopting the latest technologies in the field of communications, enhancing the digital technology infrastructure, and introducing innovative solutions.
The CEO of Omantel mentioned that the company maintains its leading position as a key enabler of digital transformation for government institutions and the private sector in the Sultanate of Oman. He emphasized their commitment to enhance their leadership in the telecommunications market by providing integrated digital solutions and services, forming partnerships to build national capacities in areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, information and communication technology, as well as establishing a national cloud for Oman.
He affirmed that these international collaborations are supported by solutions provided by Omantel, along with Omantel’s global linkages to reinforce the infrastructure that the company aims to build as part of its strategy to transition into a full-fledged provider of digital solutions to meet the needs of its subscribers, whether government institutions, private sector companies, or individuals, all under one roof.
The CEO mentioned that one of the company’s key initiatives in 2023 is to adopt a sustainable strategy and establish a sustainability committee chaired by the Chief Financial Officer. He pointed out that the company has issued a new sustainability report focusing on the important areas of work integral to the company’s strategy, aiming to develop thriving communities, maintain a high level of governance, enhance the company’s attractiveness to talented individuals, and contribute to building a more sustainable world.
Al Maamari emphasized that Omantel is dedicated to enhancing local added value by supporting local institutions through executing projects, contracts, organizing development initiatives, and registering suppliers. Approximately 120 small and medium-sized enterprises have benefited from these initiatives, with around 6 million Omani Rials allocated as supported projects for these institutions, benefiting 51 organizations last year. He highlighted that among the company’s prominent social responsibility initiatives is allocating 150,000 Omani Rials annually to support the activities of the Omani Charitable Organizations Authority, a project to maintain the homes of deserving families in collaboration with Dar Al Atta’a Association, supporting the Omani Cancer Association, and contributing to the release of debtors in cooperation with the Fak Kurbah initiative.
Regarding Omantel’s initiatives aimed at enhancing digitization in the Sultanate of Oman, the company’s CEO mentioned an initiative that included teaching programming in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, collaborating with Sultan Qaboos University to enhance research in the fields of information and communication technology and artificial intelligence. Funding was also directed to the Applied Research Fund in Information and Communication Technology and Nanotechnology, in addition to supporting the Technology Transfer and Innovation Center and offering scholarships to students, along with establishing the Omantel Innovation Center.
The CEO of Omantel concluded his presentation by pointing out that the company has received wide appreciation from local, regional, and international entities for its efforts and performance during the period, reflected in the numerous awards and certificates of appreciation received by Omantel, reaffirming the company’s determination to continue delivering outstanding performance and elevate the telecommunications sector to higher levels.
