Humane company announced its first product AI Pin which consists of a magnetic pin attached to clothing, priced at $700 plus a $24 monthly subscription, providing unlimited data and phone calls.
The startup company Humane, founded in the field of artificial intelligence five years ago by former Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno.
Chaudhri boasted 20 years at Apple, where he contributed to the design of the main screen of the iPhone. On the other hand, Bongiorno was a pioneer in software development for Apple products like iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and was part of the early iPad team.
Humane stated that AI Pin embodies their vision of integrating artificial intelligence into everyday life and enhancing our capabilities without surpassing our humanity with technology.
The AI Pin device was designed to replace your smartphone, allowing users to make calls, send text messages, and search for information through voice commands.
The wearable device includes a laser screen that turns your hand’s surface into a small screen capable of displaying time, date, or distance traveled.
Chaudhri said in a ten-minute video on the company’s website: “There are no voice alerts, so the device doesn’t listen or record constantly, nor does it perform any action unless you interact. Your interactions depend on your voice, touch, gestures, or the laser ink screen.”
Customers are required to pay a $24 monthly subscription fee to T-Mobile, in addition to the initial cost of the device. Having a separate phone number means that the chip is not tied to the smartphone, unlike smartwatches.
The remarkable company Humane stirred awe in March when it announced securing a $100 million funding round from companies like Microsoft, LG, and Tiger Global, before revealing any products.
A total of $200 million was raised by the company, with donations from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff.
Humane announced that they are now accepting orders for AI Pin starting from November 16. Chaudhri and Bongiorno showcased in a video some features of this device and discussed the technology it relies on using Qualcomm chips.
AI Pin features a 13-megapixel camera and microphone, with light indicating when these features are in use. Double-clicking the pin captures a photo or video that can be viewed through Humane’s web app.
The device can translate spoken conversations from Spanish to English and vice versa in real-time, in addition to sending and receiving messages.
Users can access AI services online instead of installing apps, as Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and other companies work on providing those services.
The company announced a partnership with Microsoft and OpenAI in the field of artificial intelligence technology. The main task of the wearable device is to communicate and interact with AI models through a program called AI Mic by the company, with Humane emphasizing that accessing ChatGPT is one of the main benefits of this device.
The device has an operating system called “Cosmos,” which automatically directs queries to the appropriate tools, without the need for users to download and manage apps.
Customers can request information with answers taken from large linguistic models, and the device assistant can summarize the user’s daily calendar, received messages, or health data, such as the amount of protein consumed today.
