Getty Images and PicsArt have collaborated to launch an artificial intelligence-powered image generator that prioritizes responsibility and commercial security. The generator has been trained on exclusively licensed content from PicsArt, allowing subscribers to pay fees for obtaining fully rights-managed images. This collaboration aims to address the issue of copyright infringement in user-generated content through artificial intelligence.
PicsArt, a platform with 150 million users, mentioned that they will offer a custom AI model developed by the PAIR lab for creators, marketers, and small businesses. This model will enable the production of innovative images using AI techniques and will be available on the PicsArt platform later this year through API interfaces.
This collaboration resembles Adobe’s Firefly AI model, which was launched as a tool for creating images in Photoshop and later integrated into other Creative Cloud applications. Firefly was trained on the Adobe Stock library and licensed or public domain content.
Previously, Getty Images has developed AI products tailored for commercial use and announced partnerships with Bria AI and Runway. They also collaborated with NVIDIA to launch the Generative AI by Getty Images tool, trained on the company’s licensed image library.
By integrating the Firefly model into popular Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Express, it may be challenging to attract creators’ attention to use the new PicsArt tool. However, PicsArt and Getty Images aim to avoid any negative reactions by committing to the legal use of images only, ensuring that users’ creations are not used without permission for training or generation purposes.
Getty Images expressed its pleasure in collaborating with PicsArt, noting that the new generator will enable creators to realize their visions creatively while maintaining commercial safety standards. They will also compensate participating creators annually. In addition, PicsArt affirmed providing comprehensive customization and editing tools to meet all users’ needs, and stated that this partnership will enhance the use of commercial images from a global brand.
