Prince Sultan University has launched a comprehensive initiative in the field of artificial intelligence during the LIB 2024 conference. The university aims, through this initiative launched under the direction of His Highness Prince Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Ayyaf,
to enhance its academic position in the field of artificial intelligence and empower students, researchers, and entrepreneurs through three pathways: education, research, development, and innovation.
The education pathway will help provide students with necessary skills and knowledge to meet future requirements in the field of artificial intelligence.
Affiliated studies and research will be conducted in the field of artificial intelligence technologies, managing the transfer process of these technologies and related intellectual properties from the university to the market by establishing companies and institutions; to enhance economic growth and technological advancement in the Kingdom.
The education pathway for the initiative will include three programs; the first to enhance artificial intelligence courses offered by the university, the second to launch a Bachelor’s program in artificial intelligence, and the third to introduce mini Master’s certificates in the same field.
Regarding the research and development pathway, it consists of three programs; the first one aims to collaborate with international researchers from renowned universities such as UC Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Oxford to enhance the latest artificial intelligence technologies.
The second program works on bridging the gap between academic research and industry by enhancing cooperation in addressing practical challenges in artificial intelligence applications. The third program aims to provide opportunities for students to participate in research projects offered by other programs.
In the context of innovation, two programs will be launched: the “Startup Accelerator” program in artificial intelligence field, and the “Artificial Intelligence Company Building” program, also known as the Studio, aiming to strategically establish and develop several startups.
As for the initiative’s goals, the President of Prince Sultan University, Dr. Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Yamani, explained that the initiative aims to achieve development and innovation in the fields of education and research, with the goal of using technology and artificial intelligence for the benefit of future generations.
He pointed out that the initiative comes within the context of supporting technological advancement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and enhancing the effective use of artificial intelligence where data and artificial intelligence play a crucial role in achieving the objectives of Vision 2030.
Sixty-six goals of Vision 2030 are directly or indirectly related to data and artificial intelligence, leading to achieving economic growth based on diverse sources by supporting non-oil sectors and industries. (SPA)
