OpenAI is experiencing an increase in demand for the ChatGPT Enterprise edition, as the number of artificial intelligence companies offering similar workplace products is on the rise.
Brad Lightcap, the Chief Operating Officer at OpenAI, stated that over 600,000 individuals have signed up to use ChatGPT Enterprise, a significant rise from the 150,000 who signed up in January.
ChatGPT Enterprise is one of OpenAI’s key initiatives to monetize conversational AI technology.
OpenAI released a commercial version of ChatGPT in August, promising additional features and privacy guarantees, such as data encryption and ensuring that customer input is not used to enhance its technology.
The company is facing competition from Anthropik and Cohere, as well as competition from its major investors, Microsoft. These companies aim to attract business clients.
Lightcap said, “This year marks the beginning of adopting smart technology in the enterprise, and we are seeing significant progress.”
As the Chief Operating Officer at OpenAI, Lightcap has been tasked with building new revenue streams for the AI startup and proving the revenue-generating potential of generative AI.
“One of Lightcap’s prominent projects is leading negotiations with media companies to license their content for the development of OpenAI models and showcasing them in ChatGPT. Lightcap expressed optimism about making significant progress in this field in the future.”
The company recently announced content licensing agreements with the French newspaper Le Monde, the Spanish media group Prisa, and the German media company Axel Springer.
At the same time, OpenAI is facing legal actions from media companies like The New York Times, who have accused the startup of copyright infringement by using their works without prior permission.
Lightcap’s company stated that the legal claim is unfounded and that most publishing industry feedback has been very positive.
While Lightcap works on expanding its business activities, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, is seeking multi-billion dollar investments from global investors for a project to manufacture chips to create a network of factories for semiconductor manufacturing.
Lightcap’s company clarified that the global supply of AI chips is inadequate, and the supply chain needs to adapt to fluctuations and acceleration in demand over the next decade.
The AI industry is facing a high demand for talent. Elon Musk announced that Tesla is raising compensation for its AI engineering team and blamed talent competition.
Lightcap’s company indicated that OpenAI currently has around 1200 employees and plans to open an office in Tokyo.
