Electronic chip company ARM plans to create customized chips for artificial intelligence with the aim of launching them in 2025, according to a recent report from the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Asia.
The report mentioned that the British company ARM is planning to establish a dedicated division for artificial intelligence chips and aims to create a preliminary model by the spring of 2025, before contract manufacturers begin mass production in the fall of the same year.
ARM will bear the significant initial development costs in collaboration with the SoftBank Group, its owner.
SoftBank Group plans to separate its artificial intelligence chip sector and bring it under its direct management. It is currently in negotiations with a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer, TSMC, regarding manufacturing and ensuring productivity.
ARM is a British company that operates in the field of electronic chip design, semiconductor development, and circuit design for mobile devices. It licenses its designs to large companies for fees and is currently a subsidiary of the Japanese SoftBank Group, which acquired it in a $32 billion deal in 2016.
ARM aims to expand in the data center market, where major companies are trying to build their own chips to power new artificial intelligence models and reduce reliance on the dominant supplier, NVIDIA.
The British company has benefited from the current artificial intelligence evolution thanks to the support of major investors, leading to an increase in the company’s stock price since its initial public offering in September last year, raising its current market value to over $100 billion.
