A team of researchers and engineers has created a sophisticated educational system that utilizes the Arabic language and its various forms in applications related to natural language processing (NLP). This field is a multidisciplinary branch involving linguistics, computer science, and artificial intelligence.
According to “techxplore,” scientists state that their project will bring significant improvements to neural language programming systems to ensure the incorporation of Arabic language and its dialects when programming computers to process and analyze large amounts of natural language data, aiding in the development of programs to enhance various language learning skills and improve translation accuracy.
A team of academics and engineers embarked on a project to evaluate the usability and benefits of the Arabic language in artificial intelligence applications to assist approximately half a billion Arabic speakers worldwide in leveraging advancements in AI technologies. Their findings have been published in international journals.
The new AI-based system developed by scientists aims to overcome the limitations faced by neural language programming when processing non-English languages, a challenge compounded in languages like Arabic, which differ in their texts and right-to-left script. Computers often struggle to recognize these languages significantly due to their reliance on the Latin alphabet.
To address this issue, Dr. Ashraf El-Nagar, a computer science professor, led a team of academics to develop a computational toolkit that will help programmers identify official Arabic programs and texts in their various dialects, among other benefits.
Dr. El-Nagar says, “The project could gain wide acceptance from the public due to the numerous benefits and improvements it offers for various language-related AI applications and services,” adding, “It can meet the needs of various users and industries, enhancing more effective communication and accessibility.”
Regarding the system, Dr. El-Nagar mentions that once launched, it will enhance the performance and user experience of various applications, such as automated translation, sentiment analysis, and speech recognition. It will not only recognize Modern Standard Arabic but also its diverse dialects, contributing to the preservation of Arab culture and promoting effective communication between different cultures.
Improving the status of the Arabic language using artificial intelligence has become essential in Arab countries in the Middle East as experienced computer users interact with ChatGPT and other AI-based applications to quickly generate information, carry out diverse tasks, and enhance other language skills.
