Amazon has unveiled an AI assistant named Rufus, designed to assist users in searching for products and shopping through it.
The company trained the new chatbot using artificial intelligence by utilizing its range of products, customer reviews, and web data, enabling it to respond to user queries about products, make comparisons, provide suggestions, and offer more information.
Currently, Rufus is in the testing phase, available only to some existing customers, and will be made available to other users in the coming weeks.
If you have access to the trial version, you can interact with Rufus by running the Amazon app on your mobile phone and typing questions or speaking to it through the search bar.
The Rufus chat window appears at the bottom of your screen, and you can expand it to get an answer to your question, select suggested questions, or ask another question.
Amazon has begun answering queries using AI chatbot technology earlier this month, where they started appearing on some users’ pages.
The company claims that Rufus can answer questions like “What are the differences between sports shoes?” or “What are suitable gifts for Mother’s Day?”.
Additionally, you can also inquire about a specific product you are looking for on the Amazon platform, for example: “Can this jacket be machine washed?”.
The smart chatbot relies on a range of products, customer reviews, and community questions and answers to provide responses.
Suggested questions for the chatbot Rufus even appear when you perform a simple search.
In an Amazon blog post, it was announced that Rufus enhances and facilitates customers in finding high-quality products that suit their needs and guiding them to them.
The CEO, Andy Jassy, stated that the company plans to integrate generative artificial intelligence technology into all its operations.
Amazon has launched several AI-related tools and services in recent months, benefiting from the success of ChatGPT produced by OpenAI.
The company experimented with AI tools to respond to shoppers’ inquiries and summarize reviews, and also utilized AI features to assist external sellers in setting up listings.
