According to a statement from a prominent executive at Samsung, the Korean company is planning to incorporate artificial intelligence technologies into its voice assistant “Bixby”, as reported by CNBC news.
In 2017, Samsung launched the voice assistant “Bixby” with the Galaxy S8 phones, allowing users to perform various tasks such as making calls, sending text messages, opening apps, and more.
Bixby can be used to carry out daily tasks such as setting alarms, creating to-do lists, reminding users of important events, getting weather information, controlling smart home devices, searching the internet for answers, and more.
Samsung aims to leverage generative AI capabilities to enhance its voice assistant’s proficiency in engaging conversations with users, addressing complex queries, providing context-related precise answers, and delivering diverse results in textual, visual, or even video formats.
Samsung offers its Bixby voice assistant on a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and smart home devices. Bixby serves as a key tool for users to control their devices inside the home.
Won-Jun Choi, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Mobile Business, stated that with advancements in generative AI and large language models, there’s a need to redefine the role of Bixby. Enhancing Bixby’s performance through integration with modern technology will make it smarter in the future.
Samsung has not announced a timeline for incorporating artificial intelligence features into Bixby.
Earlier this year, Samsung unveiled the smart Galaxy S24 phones with several features relying on artificial intelligence technology. The company is expected to hold another event in the middle of the year to introduce new mobile devices and innovative features for these devices.
