Samsung unveiled at CES 2024 an updated version of its spherical robot “Ballie”, where the new robot is distinguished by displaying items on the floor, wall, or ceiling, and following you all around the house.
The company made significant updates to its artificial intelligence robot named Ballie, which was first showcased at CES 2020.
Ballie has evolved to become an artificial intelligence companion that can interact with other smart devices to provide personalized services, such as handling annoying tasks or displaying photos and videos on walls. This allows users to view essential information for their daily lives, such as the weather or any other relevant content regardless of their location.
The robot appears in the size of a bowling ball, equipped with a battery designed to last for three hours, and contains a spatial Lidar sensor that helps it move around rooms and overcome obstacles.
The company also provided the robot with a high-definition display with a resolution of 1080 pixels, along with lenses that enable the robot to showcase movies, make video calls, and even be used as an additional computer screen.
The company showcases a video clip demonstrating Ballie’s features, including playing a video of a bird for a dog to watch, displaying a video call on the wall, and showing a person exercising to showcase fitness.
Samsung stated that Ballie has the ability to adjust the display automatically based on its distance from the wall and the lighting conditions in your environment.
It also explained that Ballie is now the first device in the world that automatically detects the position and angle of individuals and adjusts the ideal viewing angle for them.
The robot also functions as a smart home assistant, turning on lights, distributing food for dogs, sending text messages to notify someone of their activities.
Samsung stated that Ballie can control air conditioners, lights, washing machines, and more. Additionally, the robot can monitor you throughout the house and welcome you back when you return from outside.
Ballie can be controlled through voice commands or requests sent via text messages, and it responds with the help of the smart chatbot to confirm the orders before taking any action.
Ballie can operate non-smart devices such as old air conditioners and TVs, done through the built-in infrared transmitter.
The robot can map out a floor plan, identifying potential locations for smart devices inside the house.
Samsung excels in various aspects, such as automatically reminding to water plants at home and accessing remote medical services for elderly family members.
Ballie has the ability to explore and analyze the surrounding areas and recognize user patterns, thanks to the front and rear cameras incorporated.
Samsung has not revealed any information about the potential release of Ballie or the suggested price.
