Economists in the field of artificial intelligence are close to finding a solution to the high prices crisis of MRI machines. They have succeeded in developing a new machine assembled from affordable components available in the market, equipped with artificial intelligence feature, at a cost not exceeding 22,000 US dollars. This is while the cost of the currently adopted traditional device exceeds one million dollars.
A study revealed a similarity in performance between the new device, manufactured by a research team from the University of Hong Kong led by researcher Yujiao Chao, and the traditional device, confirming the availability of this life-enhancing device at a high cost.
To address the issue of contrast variation in obtained images, Yujiao Chao and her team integrated an artificial intelligence algorithm into the system of the device, based on a large dataset of high-definition images of the human body’s organs. She emphasizes that these advancements work to bridge the gap in the needs for MRI machines worldwide.
