The South Korean Ministry of Defense established today Monday a research center in the field of defensive artificial intelligence, aiming to oversee the development of artificial intelligence in the defense sector, as part of efforts to introduce advanced technologies to the army.
The South Korean news agency “Yonhap” mentioned that the launch of the center is part of the Defense Innovation Initiative 4.0 in South Korea, which aims to transform the army into a smaller and more intelligent entity by using smart technologies like artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.
The Ministry of Defense stated that the center, consisting of approximately 110 employees, will work on developing technologies related to artificial intelligence-based unmanned and manned team systems, situational awareness in the battlefield, and employing artificial intelligence techniques from the civilian sector to the military.
