A study conducted by scientists in Sweden revealed that the artificial intelligence program “Chat GPT” can generate medical reports up to 10 times faster than doctors.
Swedish and Swiss researchers conducted a study involving 6 cases to compare the speed and consistency abilities of humans with “Chat GPT”.
According to the study, doctors at “Chat GPT” company filled out discharge papers for simulated cases prepared by orthopedic surgeons, which were presented to a committee consisting of 15 experts.
The experts were unable to differentiate between the two reports, while doctors spent an average of 27.8 minutes writing each report manually, whereas it took 2.9 minutes on average to prepare a report of the same quality.
Dr. Cyrus Broden, an orthopedic surgeon at Uppsala University Hospital in Switzerland, mentioned that the notes prepared by AI generally resemble what humans produce in terms of quality, but artificial intelligence is around 10 times faster.
Broden pointed out the significant pressure that doctors face due to the heavy paperwork burdens, discussing the opportunities to use advancements in artificial intelligence to alleviate this administrative burden on doctors, allowing them to spend more time with patients.
