Tesla is preparing to integrate the smart chatbot “Grok” into its electric vehicles, according to Elon Musk’s announcement, who proposed running a small version of the artificial intelligence assistant in the electric cars.
Earlier this year, Elon Musk founded the xAI artificial intelligence startup, explaining its close collaboration with Tesla.
The startup’s main mission is to understand the true nature of the universe, with its first project being the development of a chatbot or artificial intelligence assistant similar to ChatGPT.
The collaboration between Tesla and xAI was revealed after the launch of the “Grok” project, described by xAI as an artificial intelligence designed to answer almost anything, in addition to its ability to suggest questions to be asked. The company stated: “We designed ‘Grok’ to answer questions with a little bit of intelligence and a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor”.
The company indicates that “Grok” benefits from data coming from X, while Musk announced its availability directly through the social media platform via its subscription service.
One early beta tester reported that Tesla cars may run a small version of “Grok” using local computing power.
Musk was impressed by the early beta tester’s statements, adding: “Tesla cars may have the most real-world usable inferential computing power in the world if the AI computer in the car is capable of running the model. This capacity is used within the car for a specific period, leaving the remaining period for distributed inference for the future of self-driving taxi cars”.
There are currently no specific use cases that “Grok” can provide for Tesla, but some suggest the possibility of using it instead of the company’s current voice command system.
Tesla is increasingly focusing on voice commands inside its vehicles, and having an artificial intelligence assistant inside the car is seen as a natural evolution.
Musk pointed out that all inputs are wrong, wanting Tesla cars to anticipate the owner’s needs and accomplish tasks as required, and it now seems that the chatbot “Grok” could become part of this plan.
There is currently no official timeline for integration into Tesla vehicles, although “Grok” is now available in early beta testing for some X users.
